Monsoon Essential: At Home Pedicures

Are you one of the many fans of the monsoon season? Well, I love the rainy season. The cold wind, lightening, thunder and then finally the rain pouring down to cool the mother earth after the hot and scorching summer season. What can be more beautiful than that?

The feel of the rain droplets, the smell of the flowers and wet ground, children playing in the rain, feeling everything around that nature has got to offer relaxes and frees your mind from all the worries. I am sure you too wait to enjoy the moment of sipping hot coffee or tea, munching on your favorite snacks in the evenings, getting cozier indoors with family and friends while it is pouring down really hard outside. But, like everything has its pros and cons, monsoons too bring with them excessive humidity and the risk of several infections like influenza, cold, etc.

You must have heard quite often that if your feet are not clean, you are likely to fall ill very soon. Hence, during the monsoons, foot care should be your priority on the list of personal care.

Pedicure Is Equally Essential

It is a general tendency of people to ignore their feet while patting all the day creams, body lotions, night creams, hair gels, etc in large quantities on other body parts. But, my dear friend, it is very important to take care of your feet too, along with caring for hair, skin and nails.

A little regular effort towards your feet can actually give you that added appeal of owning gorgeous feet. Read on to know how you can do an exclusive pedicure at home all by yourself and save those bucks for professional pedicure as a shopping bonus!

Are you ready for it?

So, get your eyes rolling down to watch the steps to do pedicure at home that help you put your best foot forward.

How to Do A Pedicure at Home?

First, let us list down what all you will need for a foot spa at home.

1. Trim Your Nails

Before you start off, first wipe off all traces of any nail polish if present, with an acetone free nail polish remover. Then trim your nails. Cut them straight across. Remember, cutting the corners too much can lead to painful ingrown nails. Clip and file your nails before you soak your feet in the water.

2. Soak Feet

Fill a small tub with warm water, enough to cover up your ankles. Add little Epsom salt (which you can purchase from a medical shop), 1tsp of lemon juice and a few drops of a foot wash or a shampoo. Sit in a comfortable position and relax while you soak your feet for 15-20 minutes. Heavenly, isn’t it?

3. Scrub of the Dead Skin

Push your cuticles back as gently as you can. Use a cuticle cream to soften them before doing this. Avoid clipping them.

Take sugar or salt crystals and add a few drops of a moisturizing agent like almond oil. Massage each foot for two minutes, starting at your heel and working your way out to your toes, ankles and calves in small circular motions. Rinse off with warm water.

Now, with a wet pumice stone, gently scrape off the rough skin, especially on the heels, balls of feet and the corners of your toes. Use an old toothbrush to scrub your toes and underneath the nails. Now, wipe your feet dry.

4. Moisturize

Apply moisturizing lotion in generous amounts, or massage your feet with almond or olive oil. This will be utterly relaxing if some help at home does it for you.

Foot massages help to keep your nerve endings stimulated, improve blood circulation and nourish your skin and foot muscles. If you are having a bad time with cracked heels, make sure you wear socks.

5. Glam it Up

After the general caring, now is the time for some pampering. Dress up your nails the next day and glam it up with a nice nail color of your choice.

First, apply a base coat to avoid your nails from turning yellow, then wear the color of your choice over it. Let it dry, then apply a second coat.
