So today in my article, I shall give an insight about erectile dysfunction.
What is ED?
Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is a condition in which the man’s penis does not erect or erect hard enough to have sexual intercourse. In some cases, an erection occurs but it cannot be sustained for a long period.
Hence, if the erection does not happen properly, sexual intercourse cannot take place. Erectile Dysfunction is completely different from other sexual problems.
Is ED Common?
Lets first understand how erection of the penis occurs. For example: when a man becomes sexually excited, his brain sends a signal to the nerves present in penis that increases the blood flow to the penis.
This in turn expands and hardens the tissues of the penis. So ED depends upon your nervous system and blood circulation. Now let us move on to the question.
How Common is Erectile Dysfunction?
It has been surveyed that 1 in 10 men have a persistent or recurring inability to achieve an erection. So don’t hide this condition, treatment is a must for it!
Most men face this problem occasionally, i.e., when they’re tired, stressed, distracted or drunk. However, this is only for a temporary period; otherwise an erection occurs most of the times when you are sexually aroused.
What Causes ED?
A wide range of diseases, medications, injuries and psychological (mental health) problems can cause erectile dysfunction. Here are some of the most common causes
#1. Physical Causes
The major cause is reduced blood flow to the penis that is known as vasculogenic.
I already told you that erection occurs when the blood flow to your penis is increased. So then, if you’re suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, atherosclerosis, all this will interfere with the process of erection.
#2. Neurogenic Diseases
During sexual arousal, brain sends an impulse to nerves present in the penis to stimulate blood flow. But some neurogenic diseases like\ multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes will affect the response of nerves going to the penis.
#3. Hormonal Causes
Abnormal levels of certain hormones can interfere with erections and sex drive. Hormonal problems, such as a low testosterone level, are an uncommon cause of impotence.
#4. Level of Sexual Desire-Libido
If anything affects the libido that can cause ED, because reduced levels of libido makes it difficult for the brain to trigger an erection.
If there is no sexual desire then how can the penis erect, so it is a temporary problem that may be due to stress and depression. Find out the reason, and male dysfunction treatment to enjoy sex drive.
If there is any spinal injury, following surgery to nearby structures, fractured pelvis, radiotherapy to the genital area, etc. are some causes for impotence.
#5. Medication
If you’re taking certain medicines like antidepressants, beta-blockers such as propranolol, atenolol, etc…, some ‘water tablets’ (diuretics), cimetidine can cause sexual problems.
These are the potential culprits for impotence; they could work singly or in combination. Mainly impotence is due to physical changes. So consult physician to know the cause and the best ED pills.
Prevention Of Erectile Dysfunction
You can lessen the risk of developing ED problems by making some healthy lifestyle changes.
- Eat a healthy diet and exercise daily
- Stress can lead to ED disease
- Avoid depression and anxiety
- Avoid cigarette smoking & alcohol
- Maintain normal blood pressure
- Maintain normal cholesterol levels
- Maintain proper blood sugar level
Because certain medications have been associated with impotence, ask your doctor about possible side effects before you start a new prescription.
