High blood pressure is a daunting contributor to the skyrocketing figures of people suffering heart attacks and related complications, leading to deaths.
Yet most of them have no idea of their soaring blood pressure numbers that lead to various serious diseases in them.
Prevention of these cardiovascular diseases by natural aids through nutrition has stepped ahead forward by the findings of vitamin D benefits in regard to healthy heart, apart from physical activity and low salt intake etc.
Yes! Now get yourself out in sunlight to lessen your risk of hypertension.
Researchers found that sunshine vitamin stands out as a nutriment aid to regulate your blood pressure.
Scientific evidence on the tremendous health benefits of vitamin D is heaping up on daily basis.
A new study, published at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Genetics in Paris, confirms a link between inadequacy of vitamin d and high blood pressure.
Although there were studies conducted earlier in this regard, the results were unclear.
A team of researchers led by Dr Vimal Karani at University College London analyzed 35 studies, constituting 1.5 lakh participants from Europe and North America.
Researchers used genetic variants called single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs, as markers to measure the levels of vitamin D in the subjects so as to determine its association with hypertension.
They found that participants with higher concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH) D), (a prehormone, produced in the liver during the synthesis of vitamin D), showed lower blood pressure followed by a lowered risk of hypertension.
The results stated that for every 10 per cent increase in vitamin D concentrations, the risk of blood pressure came down to 8.1 percent.
“Our study strongly suggests that some cases of cardiovascular disease could be prevented through vitamin D supplements or food fortification”, said the lead researcher, Dr Vimal Karani.
He added: “We believe that we still have a lot to find out about the effect of vitamin D deficiency on health, and we now know that we have the tools to do so.”
This study calls for seeking sufficient vitamin D levels prominently by adequate sunlight exposure, which is barely possible these days. So, better increase intake of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, fortified foods or vitamin D supplements.
Check your blood pressure reading time to time and then follow with the action.
Especially, pregnant and breastfeeding women, children below age five and older adults over 65 are suggested to take supplements to support their vitamin D requirement in the body.
Share it with your family and friends-let them know you care for them.
