Binge Eating Disorder- An Eating Disorder Related To Psychiatric Problem

The new known disorder of eating is known as Binge eating disorder. Disorders related to eating are regarded as serious health disorders. The emotional and thinking process of man lead to the path of adopting certain eating habits. These are very much harmful to human body. Overeating and starvation are such harmful habits. Many people adopt these habits in order to cope with depression, strain or fretfulness. Binge eating disorder is characterized by eating a large amount of food, and thus they gain weight. People who have this disorder eat uncontrollably and very frequently. Eating Disorder The behavior which is noticed in people having binge eating disorder is like that of Bulimia Nervosa, which is another kind of eating disorder. But unlike Bulimia Nervosa, people having binge do not usually purge by vomiting. A number of people suffer from the binge eating disorders that deal with painful feelings or emotions by eating food. These people include those who never knew how to deal with stress and always use food in order to get rid of their problems. 1. Eating in less than 2hours span, large amounts of food compared to that of other people under the same circumstance. 2. They do not have any control over the amount they are eating. They feel like go on eating. 3. One takes less time while eating during binge time compared to normal times. 4. Goes on eating until they feel uncomfortable physically. 5. Eating food when one is depressed or bored. 6. Eating a huge amount though one is not that hungry. 7. Causes of Binge eating disorder

The cause of this kind of eating disorder is still not known. But, researchers are starting to understand the cause of this disorder and also the factors that affect its development. Binge eating disorder is no exception from other eating disorders, like them binge disorder is also a result of a mixture of many mental, genetic and ecological factors. Almost half of the people suffering from Binge eating disorder also suffer from despair. Even many of them have said that due to rage, sadness, monotony, fretfulness, etc. they have started eating uncontrollably and thus resulting to Binge eating disorder. Restlessness and some other mental problems also crop up due this. These kinds of eating disorders, which include binge eating disorder, are hereditary and thus inherited while birth. Binge eating disorder also affected by the brain chemicals and researchers are also trying to find the reason behind this. People suffering from binge eating disorder inherit and thus belong to families where overeating can be seen.

Is Binge eating disorder common?

Binge eating disorder is one of the most common disorders regarding eating. Almost all binge eating disorder affected people are fat and are overweight. But even people with normal weight could be affected. 2% adults are affected by this disorder. 10% to 15% of the overweight people, who engage themselves in weight loss programs, suffer from binge eating disorder. It is very common among those with rigorous obesity. Women have binge eating disorder more than men. African-Americans and Caucasians have the binge eating disorder, but it is not yet known that whether other groups have it or not. Obese persons suffering from this disorder become overweight at a small age compared to those who do not have this eating disorder. Repeated losing and gaining weight can be seen.

Treatment

Since most of the people who have this disorder feel embarrassed because of their disorder, the treatment is a bit challenging. Many times their family or close friends do not come to know about their spree of eating. The main aim of the treatment is to prevent the person from having an uncontrollable eating habit. The treatment involves psychotherapy, medication, nutrition counseling, and group or family therapy.

Complications

The eating habits lead to a number of serious health issues. The major problems of this disorder are those which are the cause of getting obesity. These problems are 1. Diabetes 2. High Cholesterol level 3. High Blood Pressure level 4. Heart Disease 5. Gallbladder Disease 6. Different types of Cancer 7. Shortness of breath 8. Tiredness 9. Menstrual problems 10.Sleep problems In addition to the above-mentioned problem people also tend to miss their office or school or any social activity to eat. Again the people who suffer from binge eating problem become very upset about the fact.

Is prevention of Binge eating disorder possible?

It cannot be promised that all the people having binge eating problem will be cured because it is impossible. But people should start the treatment as soon as they get symptoms.
