It is no surprise that a massage can seriously soothe your mind and body, and you already know a solid rubdown has an impressive health perk, like better blood circulation, amped immunity, anxiety relief, and even improved sleep quality.

Here are few things that may make you self-conscious before going to massage:

DON’T smoke before your appointment

If you are a regular smoker, always it is hard to go without smoking as it is highly addictive.  That being said, just tries to refrain from smoking before you going to massage in order to protect the health and wellbeing of your massage therapist.

DON'T smoke

Because smoke is something that a fair number of people have a sensitivity or allergy to, and the smell can stick around the room for a while before it dissipates. Always the treatment room to smell clean and none of other clients should have to walk into a massage room smelling of cigarette smoke.

Don’t Bring In Artificial Fragrances

Please only wear lotions, creams, or sprays which are unscented or lightly scented with few essential oils.  Each massage therapist will have their own preferences for products which they use on clients, and also uses aromatherapy with natural base oils and essential oils. These are generally light and natural and few people have some troubles with them.

Don’t Bring In Artificial Fragrances

If you choose to bring in your own lotion or oil to use, make sure that it is unscented or scented only with essential oils.

Please do not prefer products with artificial fragrances in the massage room because many of them suffer from allergies or sensitivities to artificial fragrances, and the fragrances take much longer to dissipate than natural aromas.

Don’t Show Up Late (or too early)

Your massage time generally begins at the time that you are scheduled. Therapists encourage new clients to arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork and intake and returning clients to arrive about 5-10 minutes early for a brief verbal check to with enough time in using the restroom if need be and get on the table to begin on time.

If you arrive late, it will be annoying to therapists. Your massage is done at the end of the scheduled appointment time.

Here are few things that may make you self-conscious after body massage:

Don’t Get A Massage When You’re Sick

Really and truly if you are sick, please don’t come in to get a massage! Period!  If it is just a little throat tickle or a runny nose and you’re not sure if you should get a massage, make a phone call to the therapist to check in and let them know what is going on with your body & who you have been around (ie: children, on a plane, or out of the country).

Don’t Get A Massage When You're Sick

It will help to clear up any question of whether you should not get a massage. Circulating by any bacteria or virus, or a cold can exacerbate the condition you may be experiencing.

Don’t Jump Off The Table

At the end of your massage, the therapist will leave your room and it will be time for you to face the world once again. You should get up slowly from the table. Massage therapy will make a person feel light-headed or dizzy, this feeling is normal. The injury may also be possible if you do not take your time. Allow your blood flow to readjust. Do not hurry up. If you feel you need a moment after you got dressed, ask your therapist for a place where you can sit quietly before you leaving.

Don’t Strain Your Muscles

don't strain your muscle

You will want to avoid some unnecessary strain on your muscles after your massage. You may feel like you can move the mountains, but your muscles have just received a workout during your massage. Your therapist has just spent the last hour in stripping, pulling, and lengthening the muscle. Allow yourself sufficient time (usually 24 hours) to ‘recover’.

Don’t Be Dehydrated

don't be dehyderated

Massage releases “toxins” or impurities that which have accumulated in a muscle tissue. After your therapy, you should increase your water intake to twice your normal fluids. Increasing your water helps to flush the toxins in your system and helps to hydrate the muscles. If possible, just avoid drinking alcohol, coffee, tea or eating anything with caffeine for the remainder of the day.

So, here you have it. These are few don’ts to remember when going in for a massage and after the massage. Before your massage, tell a reason to your therapist why you want a massage and if you need special attention to few certain areas. During the massage, tell your therapist that if the pressure is too light, too strong or just right. After the massage, let your therapist know if they did a good job because your therapist wants to hear your feedback.
